(New Delhi) -- India is on track to become the world's most populous country this month.

That's according to the United Nations which said Monday that India's population will match and then exceed China's by the end of April.

This comes just days after the U.N.'s Population Fund predicted India would have nearly three-million more people than China by the middle of this year.

The U.N.'s projections have India's population surpassing one-point-four-two-five-billion by the end of April.

China reached a peak population of one-point-four-two-six-billion last year, but that number has started to fall with the U.N. predicting it could dip below one-billion by the end of the century.
