HAZARDOUS CHRISTMAS TRAVEL WITH ICY CONDITIONS: 3PM UPDATE

As predicted by the LRC, a major winter storm will be impacting our area Christmas Afternoon into Tuesday.   Timing of this event is expected like this:  : Freezing rain and sleet will push in to the valley from the EAST!!  As we head into evening hours most of this from the Valley westward will be in the form of freezing rain/sleet while lakes country remains mainly rain. This will lead to VERY HAZARDOUS driving conditions from the Valley westward while areas from DL south toward Alex will remain mainly rain.  Freezing rain will change to rain in the F/M area after 8pm this evening   As the current models are showing, around .25" to .30" of freezing rain are POSSIBLE.  The worst conditions are just WEST of the valley by about 25 to 50 miles. where some areas could pick up 1/2"+ of freezing rain causing some power outages.  TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED MONDAY AFTERNOON ONWARD from the Valley westward.   Tuesday: rain will mix with and change to snow across the area. Minor accumulations are possible.
