Snowmelt and runoff cause for concern heading into Spring

(Bismarck, ND) -- Flood concerns are rising as spring nears.

With snowfall averages higher this year, residents are reminded of the severe flooding back in 2011.

Runoff and snowmelt from the Missouri River in Montana and the Yellowstone River are the biggest problem areas.

The good news for North Dakotans is that snowfall in neighboring Montana was pretty regular, compared to local totals, lowering the runoff risk.

The same can be said for the Red River, as much of the Eastern part of the state is under low to moderate flood watch as of the beginning of March.
