(Bismarck, ND) -- A federal judge is signing off on a 20-million-dollar civil settlement in connection with the largest oil field spill in North Dakota history.
Ten-million of the settlement will be split between several agencies, which intend to spend it on environmental projects. The federal government will receive the other ten-million.
The agreement was approved last week after Summit Midstream Partners pleaded guilty earlier in September to spill-related criminal charges.
The pipeline spill happened over five months in 2014 and 2015 when a gathering line leaked hundreds of thousands of barrels of produced water contaminating Blacktail Creek and the Missouri River.
