Brittney Griner recognizes others detained in Russia on one year mark of her release

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  On the one-year mark of her release from a Russian jail, Brittney Griner is recognizing others who have been in her position.

In a statement released from the basketball star and her spouse, she highlighted Americans Paul Whelan and Evan Gershkovich.

They are still wrongfully detained in Russia, among others.

The Griner's urged Americans to "please take a moment to think about and share a story, send a letter or call a representative about one of the many Americans being held away from their families this holiday season."
