Highway Patrol releases information regarding Highway 2 crash in Mountrail County

(Mountrail County, ND) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has released more information regarding the crash this morning in Mountrail County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 2 and 93rd Avenue NW, approximately four miles west of Ross in Mountrail County. There was heavy fog, which reduced visibility, the Patrol said.

A 2015 Kenworth Truck, pulling an empty sandbox trailer, was southbound on 93rd Avenue NW and approaching the intersection with Highway 2. The Kenworth came to a stop and attempted to cross the intersection to go east on Highway 2. A 2021 Chevy Equinox was wesbound on Highway 2, and strruck the Kenworth’s trailer on its driver side. The Kenworth came to rest partially in the eastbound lanes, and the Equinox came to rest in the westbound lanes.

The Kenworth attempted to move itself off the highway to a safer location, when five more vehicles, all traveling eastbound on Highway 2, became involved.

The sequence of the events is unknown, and the Highway Patrol is inverstigating the crash, attempting to locate all drivers, passengers. The extent of injuries to the occupants is unknown at this time.
