(Las Vegas, NV) -- The Oakland A's are purchasing land near the Las Vegas Strip.

The "Las Vegas Review-Journal" reports the team has reached a binding agreement to buy a 49-acre site where they plan on building a major league ballpark. A's president Dave Kaval says they will build a 35,000 seat stadium and it will include a retractable roof.

Kaval added that the team hopes to break ground on the $1.5 billion project by next year, and hope to move to their new home in Sin City by 2027. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred says the league supports the A's move to Las Vegas.

The A's lease at the Oakland Coliseum expires after the 2024 season.
