NDHSAA to make return-to-competition decision in July

The North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) board of directors met Wednesday for their regular board meeting. The board discussed business surrounding the 2020-2021 school year.

The board heard a report from the return-to-competition committee, which was formed at the NDHSAA board meeting on June 8 to create guidelines for NDHSAA member schools transitioning back to holding activities during the 2020-21 school year.

The 14-member committee determined that the guidelines for a return to competition for extracurricular activities will be aligned with the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction’s K-12 Restart Plan. A final draft of the K-12 Restart Plan, approved by Governor Doug Burgum and the North Dakota Department of Health, is slated for mid-July.

Activities in North Dakota’s high schools came to a stop in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boys soccer is slated to be the first sport to begin, on August 3, with Class A girls golf, boys tennis, cross country and football all slated to begin a week later.

Class A girls golf and boys soccer are allowed to hold their first contests on Friday, August 14.
