(BISMARCK) -- The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality is urging residents to take caution during smoky conditions. The smoke is in the region due to the continuing wildfires in Canada.

The Department says particulate matter is pushing the Air Quality Index into both 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' and 'unhealthy' categories in parts of North Dakota. Those areas in unhealthy areas of the state are advised to keep outdoor activities light and short.
