(Bismarck, ND) -- An effort to override North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum's veto of a bill that would have restricted the way transgender students were treated has failed.
The state House was unable to override Burgum's veto Monday, falling short of the two-thirds majority vote needed.
The Senate cleared that hurdle last week. The legislation won't go into effect.
The House also failed to gather enough votes to override Governor Burgum's veto of a bill that would have increased the interstate speed limit to 80 miles per hour.
Burgum attributed his veto to concerns over traffic deaths in the state. The legislation has now failed for the session.
