(Emerson, Manitoba) -- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say access to the Pembina-Emerson border crossing has been restored.
Access to one of the area's busiest ports of entry was cut off nearly a week ago by a blockade of trucks and agriculture equipment. The RCMP tweeted early Wednesday afternoon that protesters had been cleared from the area and full access was back.
In a statement, the RCMP said "Our officers will remain in the area to ensure that the highway and the border to the United States remains open and accessible to all travelers."
Truckers who regularly cross the border were protesting COVID-19 vaccination requirements initiated by Canadian and U.S. authorities.
