(The Hague)  --  The International Court of Justice is telling Israel it must prevent acts of Genocide.

The court stopped short of ordering a total ceasefire Friday when it issued its initial ruling on South Africa's claim that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The court also ordered Israel to take "provisional measures" such as allowing humanitarian aid to reach Palestinians. The ICJ President Judge said the measures are being ordered because "the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is at serious risk of deteriorating before the court reaches its final judgment."

The court said it would not throw out the genocide case because the allegations "appear to be capable of falling within the provisions of the" Genocide Convention of 1948.
