(Burlington, VT)  --  Former Vermont U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy says he believes the U.S. is violating the law that bears his name.

The Leahy Law bars the U.S. government from providing military aid to foreign entities that are guilty of gross violations of human rights. Leahy says the U.S. is violating the law by sending billions of dollars in assistance to Israel as its deadly war with the Palestinian militant group Hamas rages on.

Leahy says he's proud to have such an important law in his name, but it cannot save lives if the measure is not enforced.
