Petition calling for significant changes to North Dakota elections removed

(Fargo, ND) -- A petition that would have significantly changed voting in North Dakota has been withdrawn.

According to North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe, the petition was withdrawn after sponsoring committee chair Lydia Gessele notified Howe's office that she would not accept the title of the measure as written by the secretary of state and Attorney General Drew Wrigley.

Gessele's group proposed major changes to the state's processes for elections and ballot measures, including eliminating early voting, and the use of voting machines.

Gessele has informed WDAY Radio that her group intends on rewriting their petition before resubmitting it the secretary of state for review.
