(Bismarck, ND) -- Voters will not be voting on recreational marijuana in North Dakota in the next election cycle.

The deadline to submit more than 31-thousand valid signatures to the secretary of state was Saturday. The group organizing the effort only gathered roughly 19-thousand-500 signatures over the past year.

The proposed measure would have allowed legal marijuana use for anyone 21 and older, for home-growing of up to 12 plants and would have been regulated by the state legislature.
