(Fargo, ND)  -- The North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board is weighing in on the ongoing shortage of teachers in the state's schools.

The board has sent a letter to Governor Doug Burgum asking him to declare the situation a crisis.

The board says for one semester it wants to allow selected student teachers into the classroom without a teaching license.

Board officials say it's a temporary step to help with the shortage.
