Fire damages Williston movie theatre

(Williston, ND) -- A fire at Williston's Grand Theatre movie theatre caused an unknown amount of damage Wednesday night.

According to Williston Fire Assistant Chief Corey Johnson, the Williston Fire Department was dispatched to the theatre at 9:02 p.m. for a commercial structure fire. When the first engine arrived on scene, heavy smoke was coming from the front entrance, with flames visible in the front concession area.

The theatre was in operation, with approximately 70 occupants self-evacuated from the facility through the emergency exits.

Responders found the fire in the main lobby area at the concession stand, and were able to quickly enter the building and located the fire. Nine minutes after the original dispatch, the fire was reported as contained, and was fully extinguished shortly thereafter.

No injuries were reported.

Williston Fire Department's Fire Prevention Division is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
