(Minneapolis, MN) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves might have been shedding salary this offseason if Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore had completed their purchase of the team.

ESPN reports that the pair submitted financial forecasts that showed plans to cut payroll to get below the luxury tax threshold. The report says that current owner Glen Taylor decided to void the sale of the team after believing the cuts would close Minnesota's window to win a championship. Lore and A-Rod refused to comment on the report.
