Kirk Cousins leaving Vikings to sign a four-year deal with Atlanta

The Minnesota Vikings will be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason.

On Monday afternoon news broke that Kirk Cousins is set to sign a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal will be worth $180 million ($45 million per season) with $100 million guaranteed. This change in scenery came after Cousins spent the past six seasons in a Vikings jersey.

While in Minnesota, Cousins played in 91 games including the postseason. Throughout 88 regular season games, he completed 68.1% of his passes for 23,265 yards with 171 touchdown passes and 55 interceptions.

Cousins will join a Falcons squad surrounding himself with young talent in RB Bijan Robinson, TE Kyle Pitts, and WR Drake London. In 2023 Atlanta finished third in the NFC South with a 7-10 record. The Falcons currently hold the eighth pick in the April 2024 draft.

As for the Vikings, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has a decision to make at quarterback. Does he sign a free agent, trade, or draft a QB? As of right now Minnesota holds the eleventh pick in the 2024 draft in what has been projected to be a deep QB class by many national analysts.
