(Minneapolis, MN) -- The Vikings will have a safer turf at US Bank Stadium next season.

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority approved a one-point-three million plan to replace Minnesota's slit-film turf with a turf called Act Global Xtreme Turf DX yesterday. The former has the highest rate of lower-body non-contact injuries among all turfs in the NFL. Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson suffered a hamstring injury on the playing surface during Week Five and he didn't return to the field until Week 14.

The new turf has a lower rate of non-contact injury, and the Vikings will begin installing it after the season in February. It is expected to be ready before the start of the 2024 season.
