On Thursday afternoon the Minnesota Twins looked to avoid being swept in Chicago by the White Sox. After a grueling 12 inning game, the Twins came out on top 7-3.
Pablo Lopez was solid on the mound for Minnesota tossing seven innings with eight strikeouts while giving up two runs in a no-decision. Relievers Jhoan Duran, Jorge Lopez, Brock Stewart, and Emilio Pagan tossed a scoreless inning apiece. Jovani Moran pitched the 12th inning for the Twins giving up one unearned run in the victory.
Chicago began the scoring in the third inning on a 409 foot two run homer by Eloy Jimenez, giving the White Sox a 2-0 lead. The Twins would counter with a pair of solo home runs. Carlos Correa went deep in the sixth inning, hitting a 377 foot home run. Byron Buxton would add a solo home run in the eighth inning tying the game at 2-2. There would not be any more scoring until extra innings.

In the 12th inning, the Twins broke the game wide open scoring five runs. Trevor Larnach scored the first run on a Jose Miranda grounder that got by shortstop Tim Anderson who was given an error. Nick Gordon would then hit an RBI double. Correa would draw a bases loaded walk, and Jorge Polanco hit a two RBI single, giving the Twins a 7-2 lead. Jimenez would drive in a run for Chicago in the bottom half of the inning, but that’s all the closer the White Sox would get. Minnesota takes the series finale 7-3.

The Twins will now travel to Cleveland for a three game weekend series against the Guardians beginning on Friday with first pitch slated for 6:10 p.m. Game coverage will be available on Apple TV+. Bailey Ober is set to get the start on the mound for Minnesota.
