The Miami Marlins defeated the Minnesota Twins 1-0 last night on a nearly perfect complete game pitching performance from reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, Sandy Alcantara. The complete game was the first in the MLB this season with the game being completed in one hour and 57 minutes. Last season Alcantara led the majors with six complete games.

Kenta Maeda was solid for Minnesota tossing five innings with nine strikeouts, including giving up a solo home run before being pulled with arm fatigue. This was Maeda’s first big league appearance since August 21, 2021. He spent all of last season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.

Avisaíl Garcia hit a solo home run for Miami in the second inning that would provide the game's only run. Minnesota only mustered four baserunners in the game with three hits and one walk.

The Twins and Marlins will square off in the series rubber match on Wednesday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 12:10 p.m. Pablo Lopez (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is set to be on the bump for Minnesota. This will be the first time Lopez faces his former team after spending the first five seasons of his big league career with the Marlins.
