North Dakota State softball senior pitcher Paige Vargas and senior infielder Carley Goetschius each took home a TicketSmarter Summit League softball weekly honor.

Vargas earned the TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Peak Pitcher of the Week. She was given the honor after tossing a pair of shutouts against Power 5 opponents last week. She began the week with a one-hitter with seven strikeouts against Mississippi State where the Bison won 2-0. Two days later she tallied eight strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Purdue.

Goetschius was given the TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Peak Performer of the Week. She dominated at the plate hitting .500 in four games, including three against Power 5 opponents. In total she went 6-for-12 at the plate with a pair of walks and a .571 on-base percentage. Goetschius tied the program record with three doubles in a single game. In the four games she racked up four RBI and three runs scored, accounting for seven of NDSU’s 14 runs over the weekend.

The Bison finished the week with a 3-1 record and currently sit at 16-11 overall on the season. This is also the fourth consecutive week a Bison has won the peak performer/pitcher of the week honor.

NDSU will return to the diamond to open up Summit League play at Kansas City for a three-game series beginning on Saturday (3/25).
