In today's first hour of Energy Matters, Scott Hennen and Todd Mitchell with:

  • North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne to discuss the US Court of Appeals decision to reverse ethanol waivers
  • Joel Johnson, director of the Coalition for a Secure Energy Future, who discusses the upcoming Minnesota Legislature and talk about the potential energy and environmental legislation that could impact North Dakota’s lignite industry
  • Jeff Zueger - CEO Midwest AgEnergy Group, who touches on the following topics:
    • Unleaded 88 – E-15 opportunity for renewable fuels to help meet balanced energy needs. – We are seeing increased expansion of unleaded 88 (E15) in ND and want to increase consumer awareness
    • Export opportunities for US Ethanol – As we see turmoil in the middle east we continue to produce a low cost high value fuel that can continue to add value around the world for fuel and energy needs
    • CO2 Sequestration study at Blue Flint Ethanol – We are completing data acquisition on 3-D source testing to verify geological formation supports safe CO2 storage of Blue Flints CO2. Next steps will be data modeling and if positive we will move to a test well to gather core samples to confirm final design. Final goal would be to inject all of the CO2 from Blue Flint into safe geological formation for long term storage.
