(Minneapolis, MN) -- A legendary Minnesota Vikings head coach, leading the team to four Super Bowl appearances, has died.

Bud Grant, who served as head coach of the Vikings from 1967 until 1983, and then again in 1985, died Saturday at the age of 95.

"We are absolutely heartbroken to announce that legendary Minnesota Vikings head coach and Hall of Famer Bud Grant has passed away this morning at age 95. We, like all Vikings and NFL fans, are shocked and saddened by this terrible news," the Vikings said in a statement released Saturday.

Grant finished with a coaching record of 158-96-5 in his tenure with the Vikings. The team won 11 NFC North crowns, and appeared in Super Bowls IV, VIII, IX and XI under Grant's leadership. He was currently serving as a consultant for the Vikings organization.
