U.S. Ag Secretary Vilsack: "black farmer equity issues" being addressed

(Fargo, ND) -- The head of the U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says his department is addressing "black farmer equity issues".

"I would say equity issues with black farmers across the United State are being addressed in a multitude of ways. One, with the equity commission recommendations to ensure that we are providing better access to programs. Two, with the equity action plans, which each missionary at USDA has adopted with recommendations to make sure that access is available. Three, in efforts to try for those who have done business with USDA, if they find themselves financially distressed, we are working to provide loan servicing," said Vilsack.

Vilsack also says there is a financial assistance program for farmers who have "experienced discrimination".
