(Washington, D.C.) -- Congress is weighing in on the proposal to remove wild horses at Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

The annual bill that funds the National Parks Service includes a provision directing the park to keep the horses because of their historic significance. Park officials are still deciding on whether the horses will stay. Some claim the animals are damaging vegetation and the local environment, while others point out the horses bring in tourists.

A final decision is expected next month.
