ND Supreme Court rules in favor of rail bridge demolition

(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Supreme Court has ruled in favor of BNSF tearing down the historic rail bridge over the Missouri River between Bismarck and Mandan.

The court released its opinion Thursday, upholding a South Central District Judge's dismissal of a lawsuit filed by Friends of the Rail Bridge.

The community group argued that the permits to tear down the current bridge and build a new one were not properly granted to the rail company.

The group is in favor of building a new bridge, but wants the historic one to remain.

Construction began on the new bridge last spring.
