UND department head: new journalism program response to North Dakota's industry talent shortage

(Fargo, ND) -- The head of UND's Communication Department says she is looking forward to the launch of a new journalism major at the school this coming fall.

"We've seen a lot of industry needs especially across the state where a lot of publishers and even broadcasters are having a hard time finding entry level positions and then even advanced level positions, said Soojung Kim.

Kim says the courses will focus primarily on print journalism, but would also include instruction in working with video and audio, including podcasting.

UND previously offered a journalism major from 1924 to 1985.
