Burgum touts K-12, school choice as a priority

(Bismarck, ND) — School choice remains a priority to North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.

The Republican Governor discussed education and the importance of it. He said it’s one of the biggest budget items North Dakota state government deals with.

“We know K-12 education is important,” Burgum said. “We’ve got people doing great things in education in our state, but we can always perform better.”

Burgum said one of the important things going forward in education is ‘introducing more competition.’

“We have to put parents in charge of making choices about where and how their kids get educated,” he said. Burgum said states who have had school choice are seeing benefits from doing so.

“It’s all about students and outcomes,” he said. “And that’s what we have to keep focusing on. We know that competition works because competition drives innovation.”

Burgum made the comments while appearing on The Flag’s What’s On Your Mind.
