Funeral services set for Mercer County deputy killed in crash

(Beulah, ND) – Funeral services have been set for the Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy killed in a crash Wednesday night near Hazen.

Deputy Paul Martin, age 53 of Beulah, was an 18-year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office and was killed Wednesday night when he was outside his patrol vehicle preparing to deploy a tire deflation device in an attempt to end a high speed pursuit involving 42-year-old Ian Cramer, of Bismarck. Cramer’s vehicle veered and crashed head-on into the patrol vehicle.

Mercer County Sheriff Terry Ternes says the funeral for Martin will be held on Wednesday, December 13, at 1 p.m. CT in the Beulah High School gymnasium.

“Deputy Martin was killed in the line of duty, ‘Holding the Line,’” Ternes said in a social media post Friday morning.
