Chauvin released from hospital and returned to prison following stabbing

(Fargo, ND) -- The attorney for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin says Chauvin has been released from the hospital and returned to federal prison in Arizona.

Chauvin was stabbed nearly two-dozen times by an inmate at the Tucson prison last month.

Chauvin's attorney says his client's family is very concerned about the prison's ability to protect the former officer following the attack.

Chauvin was sentenced to more than 20 years in federal prison as part of a plea deal connected to the death of George Floyd in 2020.
