Sanford Health to share data with VA with goal to provide better care for veterans

(Bismarck, ND) -- Sanford Health is promising to share its data with the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide veterans with better health care.

The main objectives of the agreement are accurately identifying veterans, connecting them with resources, and creating a more efficient process for providing them with health care. Sanford officials say they're taking steps to ensure data transfers are private and secure.

“It is a privilege for us to care for our veterans, and this collaboration will help provide a better health care experience for the men and women who have done so much for us,” said Capt. Paul Weckman, head of military and veteran affairs at Sanford Health. “We wholeheartedly support the VA’s goals of improving care for our nation’s veterans because it is the right thing to do.”

So far, 12 other U.S. hospital chains have joined the pledge to help veterans. A proof-of-concept is expected to be provided to staff members in early 2024.
