(Medora, ND) -- Theodore Roosevelt National Park will begin conducting a bison capture this weekend.

It will start tomorrow and last into next week, and the goal of the capture is to bring down the local bison population from 700 animals to 400. Once captured, they will be moved to a holding area and offered to Tribes through the InterTribal Buffalo Council. The organization delivers bison to member tribes and supports the establishment of Tribal bison herds.

The operation will be closed to the public due to safety reasons.
