Wild horse comment period opens for North Dakota's Theodore Roosevelt National Park

(North Dakota)  --  A 30-day comment period is underway for the public to weigh-in on the future of the wild horses at Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  

The National Park Service released an environmental assessment yesterday and determined three courses of action.  

One would be to remove the horses and livestock quickly which would still take two years.  

Other action would be to phase-out the horses and livestock over ten years or more or to take no action at all.  

There is an estimated 200 horses and nine longhorn cattle in the park and the horses would first be offered to federally recognized tribes in the project area.
