North Dakota Legislative Committee looks at virtual learning as possible end to snow days

(Bismarck, ND) -- Snow days could become a thing of the past for students in North Dakota.  

A state legislature interim committee is looking at replacing those days off with virtual learning days.  Lawmakers surveyed parents in Mandan, and found that 86-percent of them prefer a virtual learning day to the traditional snow day.  However, the committee is also looking at the effectiveness of virtual education, how prepared teachers and students are, and whether most students have access to computers while at home. Lawmakers also must consider what virtual days mean pay-wise for hourly employees.

Currently, there is no state law regarding the use of snow days, as the decision is left to the individual districts to decide if class is canceled on stormy days.
