School bus involved in deadly highway accident in Nelson County

(Fargo, ND) -- UPDATE: The North Dakota Highway Patrol has confirmed that emergency responders were dispatched to an injury crash involving a school bus and a pickup truck in Nelson County just before 4:00 Thursday afternoon. 

It happened on Highway 32 about 6 miles south of Petersburg, North Dakota. 

The school bus carrying members of the Hatton Northwood volleyball team and was traveling north on Highway 32, when it collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Nelson County road 4.

The pickup was traveling westbound on the county road. 

Multiple passengers on the school bus were taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks for injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene.

This crash is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. 

INITIAL REPORT: One person is dead after a school bus collided with an SUV on highway 32 in Nelson County, according to a report by iNewztv and other media sources.

The Northwood school bus was carrying student members of a volleyball team. 

Several ambulances responded to the scene.
