South Dakota leads nation for highest year-over-year rent growth

(Undated)  --  Renting a place to live in South Dakota is much more expensive now than it was a year ago.  

A report by Rent.com finds the average cost of rent in the state has increased by over 22 percent in the past 12 months.  

That's the highest year-over-year rent growth in the U.S.  

Despite that, South Dakota still has some of the most affordable rent options nationwide.  

The median rent in the state is just over 12-hundred dollars.
