Multiple ND laws go into effect on August 1st

(Bismarck, ND) -- A series of new North Dakota laws will be going into effect on Tuesday.

One law makes it mandatory to wear seat belts, and makes not doing so a primary offense. This means law enforcement officers can cite anyone not wearing a seat belt inside a vehicle, without any prior traffic infraction. Another law bans foreign governments from owning property in North Dakota, stemming from a Chinese company's controversial plan to built a corn mill in Grand Forks, which was eventually scrapped. Other laws ban sexual content accessible to minors in libraries, and ban transgender females from playing on school sports teams that match their gender identities.
