(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota House is pumping out several important bills as the 68th legislative session continues in Bismarck.
House lawmakers are advancing revisions to the state's "heartbeat" abortion ban.
A House panel amended the Senate's bill to clarify the language of a 2013 trigger law banning virtually all abortions that went into effect after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The Red River Women's Clinic, previously located in Fargo, is challenging the trigger law, leading a judge to enforce an injunction on the ban while the matter goes through the courts.
In the meantime, the House is moving to override Governor Doug Burgum's veto on a health insurance related bill.
Lawmakers voted unanimously to override the veto of a bill that seeks to create freedom of choice in health care provider decisions. The bill would prevent insurance companies from blocking an individual's choice of provider who is within a person's coverage area and is qualified to oversee a person's health plan. The bill is headed to the Senate for another vote.
And finally the House is advancing a measure that would prevent North Dakota land purchases by some foreign entities.
A House bill would penalize a company or group that facilitates the purchase of North Dakota land by countries deemed to be foreign adversaries, such as China, Russia, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, and Venezuela. Senate lawmakers defeated a similar bill earlier this session that would have created a review and permitting process for potential land sales.
