(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Department of Transportation is releasing its combined State Freight and Rail Plan.

The plan provides a breakdown of how all freight transportation systems are functioning, including highways, rails, pipelines, and air.

“North Dakota’s future is strongly dependent on the movement of goods and commodities to regional, national, and global markets to support jobs and our quality of life,” said Director Ron Henke. “This plan provides the foundation to guide us in making informed decisions to improve freight movement today and for tomorrow.”

Officials say North Dakota's economy is mainly based on producing and exporting goods, making transportation systems essential resources.

Two key products are oil and coal.
