(Bismarck, ND) -- Plenty of bills are under consideration in Bismarck as the 68th legislative session rumbles on.
Lawmakers are considering legislation that would clarify the state's abortion laws. The bill would remove the requirement for doctors to provide the burden of proof when performing abortions in cases of rape or incest, and place that on the state.
A specific allowance would also be made for ectopic pregnancies. The legislative committee heard testimony Monday regarding of the bill.
In the meantime, the State Senate Health and Human Services Committee is hearing testimony about a bill that would lower prescription drug prices.
Supporters say the bill will make prescriptions more affordable, especially for seniors. Opponents say the bill would limit access to some medicines that exceed the government's set price.
Similar bills have been introduced in New York, Hawaii, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Rhode Island.
Lawmakers are also considering a bill that would require voters to provide proof of citizenship in order to receive a ballot.
The proposal would require voters to provide their legal name, current address, and date of birth. They would also have to present a driver's license, state or tribal ID, an unexpired U.S. passport, or a birth certificate.
Current law doesn't let election officials require a voter to provide citizenship proof to vote.
