Two facing charges in Minot AFB dog neglect cases

(Minot Air Force Base, ND) -- A man and woman are facing charges after police found dead and malnourished dogs in their home on Minot Air Force Base.

The Ward County Sheriff's Department and Minot AFB law enforcement responded to the home May 26th on a report of animal neglect. Two dogs were found dead along with six that appeared malnourished, with urine and feces throughout the home.

Police say 21-year-old Jim Diaz and 19-year-old Katelynn Mercier surrendered the animals while and investigation was conducted. They were later arrested and charged with five counts of animal cruelty.
