(Pembina County, ND) -- The North Dakota National Guard is continuing efforts to stabilize the Bourbanis Dam.

Guard personnel are using two Blackhawk helicopters to place nearly 160 one-ton sandbags in areas most affected.  Crews stayed in place overnight and will continue efforts Wednesday. ND Highway Five will stay closed to provide a staging area for needed supplies and equipment.

The good news is water levels are dropping at the Dam in Cavalier County. The eastern Cavalier County area of the dam was previously under imminent threat to break, which would have worsened the flooding.

The part of the dam in Pembina County continues to be under threat of breach however.
