(Bismarck, ND) -- Ranchers are fighting the weather and power outages as calving season continues.

After two blizzards in two weeks, the National Agricultural Statistic Service says calving season is only two-thirds finished. The weekly crop report released Monday shows 24-percent of ranchers are experiencing heavy calf death losses, up from five-percent two weeks ago.

The Stockmen's Association and its Foundation are launching the Hope after Haley Disaster Relief Fund with an initial contribution of 40-thousand dollars.

This as Governor Burgum declared a statewide emergency following the severe winter storm over the weekend. The governor also declared a disaster for areas impacted by the historic blizzard from April 12th through 14th because of local costs incurred for snow removal.

Burgum plans to request presidential disaster declarations for both events to open up federal assistance to pay for snow removal and infrastructure repairs.
