(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Department of Human Services is announcing grants designed to build and stabilize families and keep kids out of foster care.

The department's Children and Family Services Division said Wednesday that it is planning to use 700-thousand dollars in grant funding to train professionals and provide prevention services such as the newly approved check-up program.

Officials say the grants are needed to help save families instead of just paying for a child in foster care.
