Washburn, ND - A Washburn, North Dakota farmer is out on bond after pleading not guilty to charges in a crop insurance-fraud case. Prosecutors say 58-year-old Kent Pfaff provided false insurance claim information to private companies and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Risk-Management Agency from December 2019 through June 2020. They say he then fudged the numbers to boost federal payments he stood to receive.
If convicted, Pfaff could face up to 30 years in federal prison and as much as a million dollars in federal fines.
