(Heathrow, FL) -- Gas prices are pausing in their march to extend the highest prices in eight years.

Triple-A's national average price for regular is holding at three dollars and 53 cents a gallon. Oil industry analysts say the price at the pump could skyrocket if Russian troops invade Ukraine.

Russia is the world's third-largest oil producer. Experts say if Russia invades Ukraine, sanctions could drive gas prices to levels last seen during the Great Recession.
