(Bismarck, ND) -- New grant money is available for expanding temporary shelter care services for North Dakota children.

The North Dakota Department of Human Services announced one-point-five million in grants yesterday for the temporary shelter care intended to prevent children from entering foster care. DHS says the need for such shelters has grown, after more than 500 children used shelter beds statewide last year.

The grants will be able to be used for start-up costs for new or expanded facilities.
