FEMA providing funeral assistance to North Dakotans for COVID related deaths

(Denver, ND) -- FEMA is continuing to provide financial assistance for funeral costs starting from January 20, 2020 COVID-19 related deaths.

North Dakotans have received more than $4.4 million in assistance as of this week. Up to $9,000 per funeral is available for expenses, with a cap of $35,000 per application. As of now, there is no end date for the program.

FEMA reimburses several items, including cremation, burial expenses, transfer of remains, markers or headstones, and other related costs. 

To apply, call FEMA at 844-684-6333, TTY: 800-462-7585. This is a special, dedicated toll-free phone number to apply for COVID-19 Funeral Assistance with help from FEMA representatives. It is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. MT. Multilingual services are available.
